Yes, terrific graphics -- photos and images -- also make for visually compelling and inspirational slides. But inspirational PowerPoint slides frequently contain great words -- headlines and quotations -- as well as graphics.

For modern quotes, I like to use an image of the person, or the book that the quote came from. If you want to get technical, you can use the polygonal lasoo tool in PhotoShop to cut out the relevant part of an image and paste it down on your background.
